As they embark on writing submissions for the Connecticut Veteranās Parade essay contest, Hamden Middle School students got some valuable information from those with first-hand experience on what it means to be a veteran.
Several Hamden veterans visited two classes at school Wednesday afternoon to talk to the students about their military experiences, in order to help students write the essays that will be submitted to the contest, the winner of which will ride in the parade in Hartford on Nov. 6. The topic for this yearās contest is āWhat it means to be a veteran.ā
āThe main thing is defending our country,ā veteran Lou Matteo told the students. āThat is what it is all about.ā
