When a soldier stationed in the Middle East came across three puppies in a trash pit, he knew he had to take action. The trash pit would routinely be burned without notice, and he feared the puppies would be burned alive. Stepping in to save the puppies, they rescued them, but he unsuccessfully vowed to keep his distance so he didn’t become attached. Now, as his deployment is over, he’s desperate for the dog he named Moose to be rescued and relocated to America to live with him.

“When his deployment was over, he had to leave Moose behind, which is heartbreaking,” says Robert Misseri, the co-founder of Paws of War. “He has reached out to us for help getting him to America, where he will adopt him, and their love and bond will continue for years.”

The U.S. Army soldier was deployed in the Middle East as a Chief Warrant officer. He’s a technical and tactical expert in his field, and had no plans in bonding with a dog he would have to leave behind. After rescuing the puppies from the trash pit they spent a few days coaxing them with food and water before the puppies began warming up to them.

Not only did he save him from the trash pile, but Moose was later hit by a truck, and he saved him again. Rushing to the scene of what others were saying was gruesome, he went into action, splinting his leg and providing him with the care that he needed then and later to continue his recovery. The two created a bond that made them inseparable and made Moose jealous whenever he tried to give the other puppies attention

Finally deciding to let his guard down, he accepted Moose fully and let the incredible bond take place. His fear of attaching to him and ending up heartbroken when he had to leave took a backseat to the enjoyment and comfort he had spending time with him. He realized he could not leave him behind the more time he spent with him. Yet military policy does not allow moving the dog back to America with her, so he reached out to Paws of War for help, and they have stepped in to do all they can to get Moose rescued to America to be with him

“In a world surrounded by chaos, I’ve grown to realize that Moose has an innate ability to calm my soul, and I know I do the same for him,” says the soldier. “It’s heartbreaking to leave him there as my deployment ends. I have put my faith in Paws of War, hoping they will reunite us in America.”

This heroic soldier is seeking help from the community to save his puppy and get him safely to the U.S. Paws of War can make it happen, getting through the red tape and logistics, but it’s a costly venture and they need support to help make it happen.
