On Tuesday at Frank Brown Park, one diamond was reserved for some American greats.

It was the bi-annual Miracle League Veterans Baseball game, featuring about 30 veterans from the Sims Veterans Nursing Home in Panama City.

From the battlefield to the ball field the veterans faced off for a two inning showdown.

“Maxine’s trying to decide if she’s playing outfield or first base,” one volunteer said, with Maxine, a WWII veteran on his arm.

The veterans were taken by bus, with police escort, from their home in Callaway, to a specially outfitted baseball diamond at Frank Brown Park.

“They like to be out of the building and out of the house for hours just having a good time,” hire vetsGinny O’Hare, the nursing home activities director, said. “And they change their doctor appointments because everything revolves around the baseball game.”
