Alabama couple charged with stealing meds from veterans

A Chilton County couple has been arrested after federal authorities say they stole prescription medicine intended for military veterans.

Kevin Cochrane, a former U.S. Postal Service contractor, and his wife are charged in a four-count federal indictment, according to the United States Attorney’s Office Western District of Tennessee. Cochrane, 34, was taken into custody this morning by U.S. Postal Inspectors. His wife, 36-year-old Carmen Cochrane, was arrested March 26. They are from Verbena.

Tennessee authorities said the thefts took place at a U.S. Postal Service loading facility in Memphis in November 2013, according to a press release issued today. The packages held prescription medications intended for veterans.

The indictment charges the couple with: conspiracy to possess stolen U.S. Mail; two counts ofhire vets theft of Veteran’s Administration U.S. Mail packages; and one count of conspiracy to possess hydrocodone with the intent to distribute.
