There are 300 days and counting to find a place to live for every homeless veteran in the state; that’s a statewide goal by the end of this year.

On Friday, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs announced a new push to do just that and the program is unlike any before.

Jeff is a homeless veteran who spends his days walking the streets of Minneapolis. The 59-year-old Coast Guard vet often doesn’t know where he’ll end up at night. It’s been a struggle for the past 10 years.

It was only after Jeff added his name to the Veteran Registry List, that the homeless Minnesota man became a hopeful one. “This is me; this is where I’ve been since January 26,” he said.

His stop at St. Stephens shelter will be short-lived. Later this month, Jeff will move into his hire vetsown place near downtown Minneapolis. He’s looking forward to “privacy and silence because even though I’m grateful to be in a shelter, it is a group situation and there is no privacy or silence.”
