San Antonio, Texas –  Soldiers’ Angels hosted a San Antonio Food Bank mobile food pantry today in the parking lot of their headquarters located at 2700 NE Loop 410 as part of their Hunger Relief Program. Over 200 low income veterans and their families were supported. Normally these monthly events provide 50 pounds of food, including fresh fruits and vegetables, but in honor of this special anniversary, each family received double the food and other additional celebratory goodies. The pantry was conducted in partnership with Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU), the San Antonio Food Bank, and the VA Vet Center.

The Soldiers’ Angels Veteran Mobile Food was started in San Antonio one year ago on September 10, 2015. The event has also spread to several additional cities across the country, including: Denver, Colorado; Charleston, South Carolina; and Detroit, Michigan.

With the large population of veterans in the San Antonio area, the demand for the Hunger Relief Program has been increasing every month. Each Mobile Food Pantry event is able to comfortably serve 200 families, however, many more families are put on a waiting list in the event a spot becomes available. Due to this increasing demand, the San Antonio Veteran Mobile Food Pantry will open an additional location starting in November, also in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank. More details to come regarding the second location.

“The growth of the Veteran Mobile Food Pantry event over the past year has been a testament to the need of our local veteran families, as well as veteran families in cities across the country,” said Amy Palmer, President and CEO of Soldiers’ Angels. “Thanks to all of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and supporters, Soldiers’ Angels has been able to build our Hunger Relief Program into something that has a real impact on hundreds of low income and at-risk veteran families each and every month. With continued support, we hope to make the second year of this program even more successful than the first.”
