Tomah VA renews quest for Medical Foster Homes for veterans

The Tomah VA Medical Center is ramping up its search to find potential caregivers to provide an alternative for veterans who need 24/7 care but not necessarily placement in a traditional nursing home.

ā€œMost of these people need 24-hour supervision, with things such as help or reminders for bathing, scheduling appointments and help with prescriptions and refills,ā€ said Catherine Routh, coordinator of the Medical Foster Home program at the center.

The program, launched in 2013, is intended to connect veterans who are unable to remain in their own homes because of medical issues and lack of family or friends who can care for them with people who can provide safe, long-term care in a homelike environment.
