DSU begins work on veterans’ monument

There will soon be a new tribute to the country’s veterans in St. George.

Dixie State students, faculty and staff recently broke ground on the northeast corner of the university’s Encampment Mall to begin construction of a special monument that will honor the service and sacrifice of DSU veterans.

The planned stone monument will be accompanied by a U.S. flag on a 40-foot pole, with two 35-foot poles on either side – one flying the Utah state flag and the other flying DSU’s flag or, occasionally, the Prisoners of War/Missing in Action flag. The monument will also include lighting to make the flags visible at night.
