Fifteen years ago today, our nation stood at a painful crossroad as we collectively watched in horror as one of the greatest tragedies to ever befall our nation took place on live TV. In millions of homes across our country, we witnessed as thousands of innocent men, women and children lost their lives while thousands more were injured, traumatized and others suffered the loss of loved ones.

On that Tuesday morning, we saw the worst of humanity and yet from the smoke and debris, emerged selflessness, fortitude and a strength only brought about by affliction. Thousands of first responders, without any regard for their personal well-being, rushed into buildings to save people they had never met. Their actions became the very symbol of American resilience.
