San Antonio, Texas  – Soldiers’ Angels hosted a mobile food pantry on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in the parking lot of their headquarters located at 2700 NE Loop 410, San Antonio, Texas. 200 low income veterans and their families were supported by the event, receiving 50 pounds of food each, including proteins, fruits and vegetables. The pantry was conducted with several partner agencies, including the San Antonio Food Bank and the VA Vet Center.

The Channel Company teamed up with Soliders’ Angels to sponsor this month’s food pantry as part of their XChange 2016 event. For each of the past eight years, The Channel Company has included a charitable project as part of their XChange conferences. For this year’s event, Microsoft, the generous underwriter of this project, along with other XChange event sponsors, provided an IT lab for the veterans. Eligible veterans were also provided donated technology equipment, such as laptops and tablets, as well as a tutorial for their particular device. Tutorials covered basic computer skills and guidance on how to electronically access the services provided by Soldiers’ Angels. Attendees of the XChange conference volunteered to distribute food, provide tutorials, and create “No Sew” blankets that will be distributed to hospitalized veterans.

“In a time when our world revolves around technology skills and the ability to access electronic information, this IT lab and donation of devices from The Channel Company was a great service to these veterans,” said Amy Palmer, President and CEO of Soldiers’ Angels and a veteran herself. “These individuals are now able to access the services provided by Soldiers’ Angels as well as services offered from other veteran-minded organizations.”

The Soldiers’ Angels Mobile Food Pantry is part of a monthly initiative to fight veteran hunger. With almost 1000 homeless and at-risk veterans in San Antonio, the need for support is urgent and constantly increasing. In addition to San Antonio, Soldiers’ Angels also hosts monthly veteran mobile food pantries in Denver, Colorado and San Diego, California. The service is also in the process of being expanded to Detroit, Michigan; and Charleston, South Carolina.

In July, Soldiers’ Angels distributed over $41,000 of food and product during the mobile food pantry event in San Antonio.  September will mark the one year anniversary of the program.
