Female veteranĀ Alyce Knaflich has been out of the military for decades, yet she says her marching orders now areĀ stronger than ever.

Knaflich, of Asheville, runs Aura Home, a nonprofit organization set up to serve women coming out of the military and end homelessness for female veterans.

The small charity, which has no paid staff, launched itsĀ first major capital campaign in June to purchase property in Hendersonville to house homeless, female veterans. The group is eyeing a former nursing home in Henderson County that could accommodateĀ 30 women and children.
