Our Nation’s Call to Action: It’s Your Turn to Serve

Less than one percent of our men and women are serving this country on active duty. The all-volunteer service attracts some of our nation’s top talent and requires much from not only them but their families.

And sometimes what is required is finding ways to feed their families.

According to a 2015 NBC segment, “620,000 households that include at least one soldier, reservist or guardsman – or 25 percent of the nation’s total active duty and reserve personnel – are seeking aid from food pantries and other charitable programs across the country.”

In addition, as many return to civilian life, the physical, emotional, and psychological challenges some face are often difficult and overwhelming – leading to 22 veterans taking their lives…a day.

Whether you’ve served or not served on active duty, we all have a responsibility to continue to support our men and women on the frontlines.

That’s why Bob Evans Farms and the Gary Sinise Foundation have teamed up to encourage Americans to show their support for the nation’s defenders though a program called Our Farm Salutes.

As part of the program, Bob Evans Farms, for the first time in 60+ years, has painted its iconic barn purple, a color that represents every branch of service, and is donating $200,000 in addition to thousands of meals to support the Gary Sinise Foundation’s (GSF) Serving Heroes program, an initiative that provides meals to active duty, veterans, and their families as a way of showing gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

That’s why Bob Evans Farms and the Foundation are urging all Americans to join them in going purple this summer to show their gratitude to those that serve.

“A hearty meal and time spent with family around a dinner table is often the thing service members miss most during tours of duty,” said Gary Sinise, founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation. “The generous contribution made by Bob Evans Farms to our Serving Heroes program will help us to feed our nation’s service men and women and their families, in mind, body and soul; and the painted purple barn stands as a beacon of honor to those who protect our freedoms.”
