Livingston County’s proposedĀ millage for veterans’ services has picked up an endorsement from county Democrats.

Party executive committee members Tuesday announced they had endorsed the 0.139-mill levy, which will appear on the Aug.2 primary ballot.

One mill is equal to $1 for every $1,000 of a property’s taxable value.Ā The new tax would raise $13.90 a year from those living in homes assessed at $200,000.

In addition to supporting the millage, county Democrats also called on area downtown development authorities to voluntarily contribute revenue the would receive under the new millage to the veterans. DDAs and tax increment financing authorities generally keep revenue from increased property tax assessments within their assigned districts.
