Referring to a dog as “man’s best friend” holds an entirely new meaning when the man is a military veteran and he’s matched with a therapy dog that helps him on his road to recovery.

As part of PEDIGREE’s “Feed the Good” campaign, Mars Petcare released a “By My Side” video, featuring United States Marine Corps veteran Dan Lasko, who sustained injuries during his deployment that resulted in the amputation of his left leg from the knee down.

In the emotional video, we hear of Lasko’s struggle adjusting to his new life and watch him fall in love with Wally, his new canine best friend who spurred on his recovery.

  1. For sure dogs – and also other pets – assist to alleviate symptoms of PTSD, whether from “war zone duty” or chronic emotional stress in life such as rape, armed robbery or chronic abuse by parent-type adults. While some drugs smoothe over the emotional pain and confusion, elderly psychiatrist Peter Breggin explains a much broader view of psychoactive drugs on his website. Just as the TENS works on the nerves to dissipate the transmission of pain, CES works similarly on the brain. With the CES there are no unwanted side effects, as is standard with prescription drugs. Folk who dont want to spend $300 on a CES device can have their own made from a schematic at red free circuits. Once at red free circuits, type in, CES circuit. I have made numerous CES devices with this circuit over the last ten years for relatives and friends, and have used it off and on myself, with success. After two months of 20-30 minutes daily, one can taper off to alternate days, 3rd day, etc. Sleeplessness and heavy anxiety are diminished after 2-3 usages, but require daily usage for a while.
