Every day, 22 United States vets commit suicide.

That fact was at the heart of an event in an East Texas city, which brought people together in support, and raised money for a park, to remember the men and women who have served our country in war and peace.

Veterans and families, and those who just wanted to thank veterans, gathered at the veterans memorial park in Longview.

“It’s not just our veterans helping veterans, but as civilians, we want to help,” says visitor Loni Rennick.

Sponsored by Anytime Fitness, the event honored Vietnam veterans who started the park project.

“We have the power to bring this awareness to a lot of people that wouldn’t hear it from anyone else. I felt that we hire vetshave to jump in as an organization,” says Longview Anytime Fitness owner Brian Bradford.

Backpackers marched to the park, each carrying a 22-pound ruck-sack, symbolic of the 22 veterans we lose each day to suicide, drawing attention to the problem of PTSD.
