The American Red Cross aims to help military families and veterans in need

The American Red Cross was founded on serving the military community. 130 years later they are still alleviating suffering through their comfort programs. They help active duty members and veterans along with their families, even care givers can get help. They have several programs in North Alabama.

Emergency Communication messages are handled 24/7/365 helping families of active military, including National Guard and contractors, send emergency messages to their commands sometimes requesting the service member come home. The service also helps retired veterans with financial assistance through their respective emergency relief agency.

Volunteers were placed at Floyd E. ‘Tut’ Fann Veterans Home. With some help from partners this past Christmas, provided the home with a new popcorn machine and movie projector. They need volunteers interested in spending a little time each month visiting senior veterans or perhaps adopting a veteran who may not have family close by, acknowledging birthdays and special occasions.

Participate in disaster preparedness at Redstone Arsenal, lending their expertise in shelter hire vetsmanagement and personal preparedness for the residential community. In addition, they have around 25 volunteers at Fox Army Health Clinic helping in the pharmacy, administrative desk, occupational health and records.
