Veterans group needs $700K to stay in current North Chicago home

The Midwest Veterans Closet in North Chicago might again be forced to move, this time because the building it occupies has been put up for sale.

Founder Mary Carmody said she wants to buy the building and expand services, but she needs investors to help raise about $699,000, which is the real estate listing’s asking price.

The Midwest Veterans Closet, which has rented an office in the building at 2323 Green Bay Road in North Chicago hire vetsfor the past two years, provides myriad services to veterans at no charge. The program has given veterans furniture, housewares, clothing and even a wedding dress, Carmody said.

It also offers a place where veterans can have free computer access, work on their resumes and search for jobs, she said.
