Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio took a swipe at Bernie Sanders during a recent campaign stop in New Hampshire.

Earlier this week at a town hall event in Littleton, New Hampshire, Sen. Rubio pledged to take care of veterans when he becomes president. He says while every candidate– both Republican and Democratic– cares about the veterans, he’s the only one who has addressed real reforms when it comes to taking care of vets. In an exclusive local interview, we asked him if that’s accurate given Sen. Bernie Sanders played a pivotal role in passing 2014’s Veterans Affairs reform bill.

“Well, Bernie actually worked with us on the first bill that we passed, the accountability act, and he wasn’t initially a big fan of it, but he came on board and that’s how we got it passed. He was the chairman of the committee at that hire vetstime. I would say that since then, however, he’s been an impediment to additional reforms. Unfortunately, Bernie stands in the way of, for example, portability that allows veterans to take their benefits to any facility that would be willing to see them. I respect very much how much he does care about veterans, and respect very much the amount of time and work he’s put into it, but he and the Democratic Party have actually stood in the way of some of these initiatives that will allow us to have a VA that’s more responsive,” Rubio said.
