When Bowling Green native Raymond Williamson returned from Afghanistan in 2011, he became homeless. But now that heā€™s back on his feet, he wants to help other homeless veterans by treating them to a holiday dinner.

Williamson was homeless for a year in Tampa, Fla.Ā Eventually he stayed at a veteransā€™ homeless shelter for six months, which helped him get an apartment while he focused on finding a job, he said.

Williamson contacted The Salvation Army about finding veterans to take to eat at Ryanā€™s restaurant Tuesday night.

He was hoping to get 10 but was only able to find four. He plans to make this an annual event and hopes to increase hire vetsthe number of veterans he can take each year.

ā€œI have the means to be able to do this, but not as much as I want to,ā€ Williamson said. ā€œSince Iā€™m back here in Bowling Green, I figure Bowling Green is where I started my service, Iā€™ll start it here.ā€
