Families pay tribute to veterans with wreath ceremony

Robert Lusby’s wife, son and grandson gathered around his grave Saturday in the Tonaquint Cemetery to pay tribute to the Navy veteran ofWorld War II.

Patty Lusby placed a wreath as she, Brian Lusby and Bodie Fielding observed a quiet moment beside the family patriarch’s headstone.

“We’re California refugees,” Patty said. “He was a dentist. … (During the war) he never left the country. He was at the Naval hospital in San Diego, a Corpsman.”

Aside from the tribute, Bodie said he really hadn’t learned about the war or his grandfather’s place in it, yet.hire vets

The question perhaps underscored comments about generational memory that Civil Air Patrol 2nd Lt. Aros Mackey shared with the small crowd gathered for the annual Wreaths Across America project conducted at cemeteries nationwide on the second Saturday of December.
