Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush wants to privatize more veterans care and make it easier to fire federal employees found responsible for poor treatment.
The former Florida governor also says the Pentagon should be overhauled to prioritize an increase in the number of active-duty troops. He says boosting troop levels would prevent even more strain on a Veterans Affairs Department still struggling with long delays in veterans care.
Bush says the department also needs a massive software upgrade so veterans can schedule appointments, access records and consult with the agency more easily.
He unveiled the veterans policy ideas as part of a two-day campaign swing in South 
Carolina, which hosts the South’s first presidential primary next February. Bush has spent the last week focusing mostly on military and foreign affairs.
