Sons of Confederate Veterans releases statement on Confederate flag removal

Following three reads and debates through Thursday morning, the bill to remove the Confederate flag from the Capitol passed both the state House and Senate chambers.

Governor Nikki Haley announced she will sign the bill into law at 4 p.m. Thursday during a ceremony.

Following these developments, the Sons of Confederate Veterans released a statement expressing their dismay over the decision.

Commander in Chief Charles Kelly Barrow said in the statement the Sons of Confederate Veterans are, “broken hearted at the act of senseless evil that took the lives of 9 beautiful souls at the Emanuel AME Church.hire vets

“It was the work of a deranged racist who wished to provoke the kind of disharmony and division that has been unintentionaly created by this hastily conceived legislative act,” Barrow said.
