Veterans’ Court launches today

A new court program will launch today for military veterans struggling to reintegrate back into society, giving them a better shot at staying out of jail and enjoying the freedoms they fought for.

The new Veterans’ Court initiative is an alternative to incarceration for veterans who commit certain non-violent criminal offenses. The program is tailored to serve active duty and retired service members whose criminal infractions may be rooted in injuries or trauma they suffered in combat zones.

“This is a chance to help them get their lives in a better place, particularly those who have hire vetssacrificed so much for their country,” said Judge Edward P. Nickinson, who will be presiding over the court.
