A procession of vehicles, old and new, carrying veterans and their families filed down the main drag in Steelton for the borough’s annual Veteran’s Appreciation Day parade on Saturday.

The veterans, joined by members of the community and public officials, paraded down Front Street as onlookers watched from front stoops, crowded on sidewalks and set up camp outside storefronts. The approximately mile-long cavalcade ended at the borough’s Veteran’s Park, where a ceremony was held.

In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, this year’s ceremony centered on remembering Steelton residents who died during the war.

Four Steelton residents who died during the Vietnam War were remembered — Reuben Louis Garnett Jr. of the 101sthire vets Airborne Division; Charles Edward Hawk of K Company, 4th Battalion 11th Marines; Jimmie Jack Jones Jr. of the U.S. Army and Donald Leroy Murphy of the USS Ticonderoga, 7th Fleet.
