Helping the most troubled veterans

That’s the far-away, haunted look of veterans who are quietly struggling with the trauma of war while trying to readjust to civilian life.

For some this recovery process can take a lifetime. And sadly, for some, the roadblocks along the way are a host of complex problems including drug addiction, alcoholism, homelessness, unemployment and lonely stretches in jail.

Some never make it.

A decorated Vietnam veteran and a former mayor of Yonkers, Spencer was recently named the city’s Veterans hire vetsAdvocate, but with or without a formal title, the fact is he has always been a vocal champion for those in uniform who served their country and now need help.

The question always is how—how to best assist the men and women most in need.
