Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald was caught recently lying about his military service. I take my health care at the Wilmington, Delaware, Veterans Administration hospital where my telephone calls still go unanswered, especially from the veterans’ advocate. How’s that for an oxymoron?

Heaven forbid that they should ever return a phone call and I still get the infamous “blank stares” whenever I ask a question to a staff member and I still get bounced around from department to department when I ask a question they can’t answer.

The voice mail of the Urology Department at the Wilmington VA says, we will call you back if we have the time. While talking on the phone, the receptionist in the same department just looks at me standing there at her desk and then goes back to talking to her friend. Of course, they will deny it.

My best friend, who I enlisted into the Marine Corps with after high school, made a suggestion whose time has hire vetscome. He has dedicated his whole life as a “veterans’ advocate” and believes that we should slay “the beast” and veterans be allowed to find their own private healthcare.
