Editor’s note: love him or hate him, this Russell Brand interview on the BBC‘s Newsnight program is absolutely brilliant and sure to wake up some folks watching on the TV at home.

Brand exposes corrupt governments, corporations, media and even delving into 9/11 WTC B7 being a controlled demolition which he writes about in his book.

Comedian Russell Brand said he was “open-minded” about the idea that the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks during a second appearance on BBC2’s flagship Newsnight programme.

In the wake of his last interview with Jeremy Paxman, Brand – who has written a book entitled Revolution setting out his views for political change – highlighted what he described as the “interesting” relationship between the families of former president George W Bush and al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

During a series of fractious exchanges with new presenter Evan Davis, Brown accused the former BBC economics correspondent of being “mates with CEOs and big businesses” and of “cosying up” to the London mayor, Boris Johnson.

Here’s the must watch interview, Russell Brand interviewed by Evan Davis on Newsnight:

Pressed by Davis on comments in his book about the 9/11 attacks on New York, Brand refused to rule out the possibility that the American government was behind them – and went on to accuse the BBC of promoting an “anti-Islamic narrative” in its coverage of this week’s attack by a gunman on the Canadian parliament.

“I think it is interesting at this time when we have so little trust in our political figures, where ordinary people have so little trust in their media, we have to remain open-minded to any kind of possibility,” he said.

“Do you trust the American government? Do you trust the British government? What I do think is very interesting is the relationship that the Bush family have had for a long time with the Bin Laden family.

“What I do think is very interesting is the way that even the BBC report the events in Ottawa to subtly build an anti-Islamic narrative. I think that’s very interesting.”

Brand then appeared abruptly to change tack, saying that he did not want to discuss “daft” conspiracy theories.

During the course of the interview, the comedian repeatedly cut across Davis’s attempts to press him in detail about his views, telling the presenter: “Mate, I don’t want to follow you down blind alleys about silly administrative quibbles.”

At one point Davis was reduced to almost pleading: “I’m trying to take you seriously.”

On Thursday night, Brand appeared at a Guardian live event with the author and commentator Owen Jones. Explaining his call for a revolution, he told the audience: “Democracy has been taken away from us.”

  1. I tend to agree Debbie, the more the merrier, and the more voices, the more people tend to listen. The jester has a role beyond foolishness, and IMO nothing he did on that show was silly, OR funny. He’s as serious as a heart attack and that’s pretty obvious, despite the snickering host who needed a good dope slap.

  2. Brand’s “class clown” act is both his blessing, and curse. He can get away with saying what he does- because he’s Russell Brand. He will also not be taken seriously- because he’s Russell Brand. Brand was quite correct to point out the very compromised nature of the host. I’m guessing and hoping it was the show’s idea to place the Che Guevara pic up there, and not Brand’s. Another way for Brand’s message to be negated straight out of the box.

  3. It isn’t clear what justified the title about a comedian exposing 9/11 truths and “must watch” is a strong overstatement. The shrill nasal ranting merely shouted a lot of opinions no better, no worse than the rest of us are equally qualified to parade about and say to one another. The book itself might offer some innovative approaches to solving some of problems of society as hinted during the interview. If a copy of the book came into my life I’d probably read enough of it to decide whether I wanted to read more.

On the other hand, anyone looking for evidence the human race is devolving until nothing will be left but teeth will savor the interview and add it to a collection to be compiled and placed in articles building the case.
