Officials with the Vermont Veterans Home are asking for $2.15 million from the stateās Budget Adjustment Act because the number of residents at the home has been lower than anticipated and itās seeking to cover losses from traditional sources like Medicare and Medicaid.
Joseph Krawczyk Jr., president of the homeās board of trustees, went to Montpelier this week with Melissa Jackson, administrator at the home, and Allan Faxon, chief operating officer, to speak to the House Committee on Appropriations about the request.
āWe had a very good reputation walking in there,ā Krawczyk said. āEverybody understands, weāre not going to take and fluff anything. Weāre going to tell it like it is. Thatās exactly what we did.ā
Rep. Peter Fagan, R-Rutland, vice chairman of the committee, said Friday the state was very supportive of its veterans.
āWe are supportive of and lucky to have the veterans home we have located in Bennington,ā he said.
