The “Support for Student Veterans with Families Act” seeks to authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs to make grants to eligible educational institutions to boost and in some cases create child care centers on campus. It is sponsored by Rep. Diana Titus (D-Nevada), Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-New York) and Rep. Mark Takano (D-California).

Research has shown that supporting parents who are enhancing their education by providing free or subsidized child care has positive effects on improving the employment and economic status of the student.

“The population of women veterans is rapidly growing and is going to grow in the future,” Rep. Titus said at the
Bennett Early Childhood Education Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. She added that women veterans who go back to school tend to be older and tend to have families.hire vets

Under the proposed legislation, the educational institutions would be required to allocate 75 percent of the new child care services to veteran families.
