While it may not seem typical of war-hardened soldiers to melt over a tiny kitten, that is exactly what happened to some from the U.S. Army National Guard. While on deployment in Africa, they came across a little stray kitten desperately in need of care and help, and from there, numerous people fell in love with the kitten they named Leema. Now, they are working with Paws of War to help move her to the U.S. immediately.

“These soldiers so adore Leema, and they cannot leave her behind to die because there is no food and water around,” says Robert Misseri, the co-founder of Paws of War. “We will do everything we can to help. We are on a rescue mission that we hope others will join in on!”

Several of the soldiers bonded with Leema and their families. They would make Facetime calls back home, and their family members wanted to see her being cute, playful, and interacting. When she was found, she was weak, starving, frail, and desperately in need of care. But when a team of soldiers pulled together to give her attention, love, and all the care she needed, Leema quickly recovered and thrived.

While Leema stole the hearts of several, once she moves to America, she will live out the rest of her life with Specialist Fine. As animal lovers, the two of them took to each other quickly, creating a bond that they both never want to be without. Spc. Fine didn’t expect to fall in love with Leema, but once she did, she knew that she had to look out for her safety and happiness from then on.

Soldiers cannot take animals back to the U.S. with them, so Spc. Fine contacted Paws of War for help. They have a track record of helping many soldiers and other military members return the pets they have adopted during deployments to their homes in the U.S. The wheels are already in motion, and the plan is in place. They know the work it will take to get Leema moved, but they must get financial support from the community to make the costly endeavor a successful mission.

“Leema is the sweetest, most beautiful kitty ever,” said Spc. Fine. “A soldier’s mission is to help people, but we also love to help animals. I appreciate every one helping to move her to my home so we can be together. She is special and deserves a great life!”

Paws of War is against the clock to get Leema moved to America. To make a donation and help make the mission a success, visit the site at: https://pawsofwar.org/?form=Leema
