Burn Institute, Mama’s Kitchen and Wounded Warrior Homes’s Clients to Benefit from Accessible Transportation through Lyft’s Quarterly Grant Program

(SAN DIEGO)  – Today, Lyft, whose mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation, announced the recipients of its local grants program in San Diego ‒ Burn Institute, Mama’s Kitchen and Wounded Warrior Homes. In July 2019, Lyft announced over 40 cities would start awarding Lyft ride grants to nonprofits on a quarterly basis to help bridge transportation gaps for individuals and families.

Lyft is proud to partner with the following local organizations to further their causes:

● Burn Institute will use the transportation grant for emergency needs and special assistance programs, such as helping transport burn survivors to appointments, support groups and other outings essential for recovery, and to empower those affected by burn trauma.

● Mama’s Kitchen will provide its low-income food pantry clients with convenient and accessible rides, which will greatly impact individuals who spend several hours or multiple bus rides through the county to get to the neighborhood food pantry.

● Wounded Warrior Homes will help veterans affected by traumatic conditions access Lyft rides to counseling and medical appointments, which can be difficult to reach via public transportation.

“We’re grateful to Lyft for honoring our clients, post 9/11 veterans, with reliable and accessible transportation,” said Mia Roseberry, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Wounded Warrior Homes. “These individuals are struggling with Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and we believe they shouldn’t have to worry about how to find a ride to their medical appointments as well. Lyft will effectively fill this need, and is helping San Diego veterans become mentally and physically healthy again.”

“Lyft is proud to be able to partner with local organizations who are already working on issues like access to medical care, nutrition and housing that matter most to San Diego,” said said Hao Meng, Lyft’s Southern California general manager. “We look forward to supporting these hard working organizations who want to take their efforts even further and to help them provide access to reliable and affordable transportation.”

Lyft’s local grants initiative was first developed in 2018 to help Lyft identify and connect with some of the San Diego area’s most impactful organizations. Nonprofits are awarded grants on a quarterly basis, with recipients determined by a local committee of Lyft employees and representatives from the Driver Advisory Council.

Any 501(c)3 organization that operates in the San Diego metro area is eligible to apply for a grant. Interested applicants can learn more about the opportunity and apply by visiting the website LyftWheelsForAll.com

Lyft’s local grants program is just one of many initiatives and a part of the company’s commitment to deploy 1% of profits or $50 million every year (whichever is greater) to help make cities more livable for everyone. Lyft is focused on a variety of programs from providing access for underserved communities to groceries, jobs and more, to supercharging the growing civic movement in major cities by donating transportation to grassroots civic organizations, building transportation infrastructure in neighborhoods that need better connections to the rest of the city, and working with local groups to build toward a clean energy future.
