GLENDALE, CA—Expanding upon its 104-year tradition of Memorial Day remembrances, Forest Lawn will augment its acclaimed free, parkwide Memorial Day commemorations with Glendale Sunrise Rotary’s Field of Honor, a week-long series of free, family-friendly educational events.

The Field of Honor events take place from May 18–May 27, 2019, at Forest Lawn—Glendale and lead into Forest Lawn’s Memorial Day 2019 commemorations, which take place on Monday, May 27, 2019, at each of Forest Lawn’s six Southern California locations: Cathedral City, Covina Hills, Cypress, Glendale, Hollywood Hills, and Long Beach.

The parkwide remembrances celebrate the lives and memories of American veterans with patriotic elements, including keynote addresses, presidential proclamations, rifle salutes, invocations, color guards, patriotic music, wreath layings, giveaways, ice cream, and more. The Forest Lawn—Glendale commemoration is the featured commemoration this year.

“With the expansion of the Glendale Sunrise Rotary’s Field of Honor leading into Forest Lawn—Glendale’s Memorial Day remembrance this year, we look forward to providing more opportunities for people of all ages to remember, rediscover, and learn about our country’s rich history and traditions,” says Rodolfo Saenz, Forest Lawn’s Senior Vice President, Marketing. “The addition of the educational series to the Field of Honor flag dedication provides a full week of patriotic and historic experiences that broaden our community’s Memorial Day celebration.”

In the week leading up to Forest Lawn’s Memorial Day remembrances, Glendale Sunrise Rotary’s Field of Honor series of family-friendly educational events presents a unique opportunity to learn about the history of the United States and support veterans and service projects within the Glendale community.

The Field of Honor series of live performances and hands-on activities begins on May 18 with the Field of Honor dedication of 1,000 American flags on the lawn adjacent to Forest Lawn—Glendale’s entrance The Field of Honor flags will be on view with Glendale Sunrise Rotary members on site from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM through May 27. Patrons and patriots can sponsor flags via www.glendalesunriserotary.org, with the proceeds supporting local veterans through Wellness Works, a non-profit community resource that provides holistic, alternative, and emerging healing modalities to treat post-traumatic stress and other military-related trauma.
