(PHOENIX) As December 7th, the 77th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and Pearl Harbor Rememberance Day approaches, Valley based non-profit S.E.E.4VETS (Support Education and Employment for Vets) is pleased to announce it has just received a $100,000 donation on behalf of well-known actor and veteran William E. Phipps.

Phipps, who is best known for his roles in dozens of classic sci-fi and westerns, both in films and on television and for playing the voice of Prince Charming in Disney’s original Cinderella had previously enlisted in the Navy and served as a radioman aboard six ships between 1942 and 1945. He died this past June at the age of 96.

Those who knew him said Phipps never aspired to movie or TV stardom, instead they say he was happy instead to consider any part offered to him, large or small, he prided himself on his versatility, which is demonstrated by his long and successful career.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of S.E.E.4VETS, Rear Admiral James Symonds says they are extremely proud to be a benefactor of the William E. Phipps trust.

“Very rarely in life do you come across someone like William E. Phipps. When we consider his military service, love of our great country, and his magnificent acting ability, he leaves behind a tremendous legacy,” said Rear Admiral Symonds.

“As a career US Navy officer, myself, including assignment as Commanding Officer of the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN76) and ultimate promotion to Rear Admiral, and S.E.E4VETS board member I am grateful for the incredibly generous contribution made to S.E.E.4VETS from his estate and on his behalf.”

The generous $100,000 gift came from his trust and will support student veterans at community colleges to persist and advance in their academic studies, particularly math and English in the form of tutoring and scholarships.

S.E.E.4VETS is the only non-profit veteran organization funding Arizona community colleges to prepare the under-prepared student veteran to improve their academic standing in math, English and writing.
