Philadelphia, PA – When military personnel are called to duty, they uproot their entire lives. For those who are pet owners, it means finding a temporary foster home for the four-legged members of their family.

That’s where PACT for Animals unique mission is called upon.

PACT is a 501(c)3 organization that assists military members, hospital patients, and their pets during times of deployment or extended hospital stays. PACT was created to eliminate the surrendering of beloved pets to animal shelters due to obligatory military service or unexpected medical crisis.

PACT for Animals does this by engaging foster families who open up their hearts and their homes to care for these pets at no charge until they can be reunited with their owners.

“We have saved the lives of beloved pets all across the United States,” said the founder of PACT, Buzz Miller. “These pets and their owners have no where else to turn. Can you imagine the heart wrenching choice of surrender to a shelter, ending in an uncertain fate? ‘Happy endings instead of heartbreak’ has been our mission from day one. We are also an integral part of the no-kill movement. We save lives by keeping companion pets out of shelters and instead in loving foster homes until they can be reunited with their families.”

To date, PACT has been responsible for providing foster families for over 700 dogs, cats, and small animals throughout the country. PACT carefully screens every case to choose the perfect match of foster home and foster pet. Thanks to PACT volunteers all across the country, PACT is able to match the pet in need with a foster family. Foster families volunteer to care for the pets and are in constant contact with the military/hospitalized owners providing peace of mind through regular updates, including photos, messages and videos of their beloved pets.

“For pet owners in a hospital bed, on deployment, or in another crisis situation, these foster home updates give them unbelievable comfort and happiness,” says PACT founder, Buzz Miller. “It’s so uplifting to know that we are making a difference for families who love their pets. The best part of our mission is each heartwarming reunion of the companion animal with its owner.”

From a Senior Airman in the US Air Force who was deployed overseas for two years while his dogs were fostered by a PACT family, to a little girl from Florida who needed specialized care from Shriner’s Children Hospital in Philadelphia and also needed a home for her dogs, the stories of PACT are making a difference all over the world.

PACT for Animals is currently raising funds for its annual campaign, #GivePACT in order to continue their work to facilitate temporary, free boarding of pets belonging to active duty US military members or individuals experiencing temporary hospitalization. The PACT team works around the clock to find safe, loving homes for these pets when the only other alternative is surrendering to an animal shelter. The goal is to support another 200+ pets and their owners in 2018.
