San Diego, CA- Vice released a 30 minute documentary on Veteran Television (VET Tv), a TV network that is dedicated to creating humor for the veteran community. VICE gave civilian insight to the dark military humor created by VET Tv. What civilians often dub as controversial, those that have served in the military just call nostalgic.

Erica Matson, a VICE Reporter, asked hard-hitting questions about the controversial issues that VET Tv has shed a comedic light on. Issues such as death, suicide, sexual assault, PTSD, rules of engagement, night terrors, torture, fratricide, hazing…etc. VET Tv states that these issues are brought to light in hopes that people will laugh and engage in a positive conversation.

Even though some will be offended, the positive conversation from both sides of the spectrum will lead to a stronger community. Much like “The Chappelle Show” did with race, VET Tv feels that these are all issues that need conversations by both active duty and veterans.

“I came close (to suicide) a few times. Now I make suicide jokes all the time…it’s almost a way to have power over that. I want to own that time of my life,” said VET Tv staff member, Jonathan Forsythe. Every member of the VET Tv staff and most of its independent contractors have lost friends to suicide.

Since launch on June 23, 2017, VET Tv has grown to over 25,000 subscribers that pay $5 a month and is the fastest growing independent subscription video on-demand (SVOD) service today.

They currently have a library of over 1300+ minutes of original content and project to triple that in the next 12 months. They plan to continue creating video content that is both nostalgic and therapeutic to the veteran community. Original content can be found only on VET Tv, www.veterantv.tv.
