CVA Launches Effort to Hold Lawmakers Accountable on VA MISSION Act

ARLINGTON, Va.—Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is launching new ads as the latest installment in a six-figure effort to see the landmark VA MISSION Act legislation become law and hold accountable members of Congress for their votes.

The grassroots veterans group is aiming ads at over a dozen lawmakers of both parties in the House and Senate, encouraging grassroots volunteers and members of the public to send messages urging continued support for pro-veteran policies.

A spokesman for CVA said the effort indicates a continued commitment to realizing the promise of this major reform legislation and building on its success over the next several months and years.

CVA is thanking a bipartisan group of members including Reps. Budd (R-N.C.), Coffman (R-Colo.) Davidson (R-Ohio), Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Meadows (R-N.C.), Pearce (R-N.M.), Sens. Burr (R-N.C.), Cornyn (R-Texas), Cruz (R-Texas), Lee (R- Utah), Paul (R-Ky.), Tillis (R-N.C.), and Toomey (R-Pa.). Click HERE to view a sample ad.

The grassroots organization is also singling out two lawmakers from opposite sides of the aisle who were impediments to this historic legislation: Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.). Click HERE to view a sample ad.

CVA Executive Director Dan Caldwell had this to say:

“We are very thankful lawmakers were able to set aside partisan differences and join with President Trump to advance this critical legislation. This is an effort to both show our appreciation to key lawmakers while also letting those who stand against pro-veteran policies know that their constituencies are watching and want them to support these measures.

We remain committed to educating the public on VA reform and where their officials stand. There is more work to be done, and we look forward to collaborating with leaders in Congress and the administration as we move forward.”

The VA MISSION Act, which was signed into law on Wednesday by President Trump, stabilizes and reforms the VA’s health care system by consolidating the VA’s community care programs, defining clear standards for when a veteran can access care outside of the VA, and initiates a review of the department’s infrastructure. The law also aims to reform the VA’s reimbursement and record-sharing systems for community providers.

The legislation enjoyed broad, bipartisan support as well as the endorsement from over 40 veterans groups, including CVA. To this end, the grassroots veterans group is launching a digital ad campaign encouraging citizens to write their legislators, thanking them for their support of the bill. In some districts, activists are encouraged to put their representatives on notice for their opposition to these critical reform measures.

CVA previously launched a round of ads encouraging members to support the legislation before it received wide bipartisan support on the floors of the House and Senate last week.

The group has consistently worked with staff and volunteers around the country to drive phone calls into Congress in support of the VA MISSION Act and related legislative vehicles this year.
