Wilmington, DE— Today U.S. House candidate Sean Barney, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and was severely injured when a sniper shot him through the neck, issued the following statement on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s comments today in Ashburn, Virginia:

“Today, a Donald Trump supporter handed him a Purple Heart. Trump’s flippant and repugnant reply: ‘I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.'”sean2

“As someone who fought for our country in Iraq, was injured, and was awarded a Purple Heart, I can tell you, no one should ever ‘want’ to get a Purple Heart.”

“Again and again, Donald Trump has proven that he is unfit to be the Commander in Chief of our armed forces. As Khizr Khan poignantly argued, Donald Trump has not sacrificed for this country and he do

es not understand duty to any cause other than himself.”

The Democratic primary for Congress is on September 13, 2016. For more information about Sean Barney, please visit www.seanbarneyforcongress.com. Approved media photos can be found at seanbarneyforcongress.com/press.

sean1 Sean Barney is a progressive Democrat and a combat-wounded Iraq War veteran who will work across the aisle to get the job done for Delaware. To make progress in America, we need to send service-oriented leaders to Washington who will put the people first, move beyond the petty politics of the present, and pull our country together.

Sean was working on Capitol Hill for Senator Carper on 9/11 when terrorists crashed into the Pentagon just miles away. Not wanting others to fight in his place, Sean enlisted in the Marine Corps, thinking he would be sent to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan.  Sean was instead deployed to Iraq, where he knows firsthand the U.S. fought the wrong war in the wrong place. While on patrol in Fallujah, Sean was wounded in action when a sniper shot him through the neck (watch members of his platoon tell the story of that day here). Sean recovered from his wounds and partial paralysis, going on to serve as the policy director to Delaware Governor Jack Markell.

  1. It was a very stupid move for this guy Khizr Khan and his wife to rock out of the gate swinging hard in favor of the Dimmos- were they offered a bundle of money or what?

Better luck next time Khan, and burn a brain cell or two the next time- instead of assuming that you’re sacred. Shame on you for using your son’s sacrifice as a political tool.

  2. Khizr Khan dares jump on the Trumpophobia bandwagon, pulls out a pocket book and lectures an American patriot and nominee of a major party for the presidency, about the constitution of his nation and expects him not to respond ? What a useful Idiot!
