Louisville KY

Growing up, my parents and my grandparents informed me that if I wanted to eat, I best learn how to work. I clearly remember when my grandfather, who grew up through the Depression, sat me down while I was finishing my final year of college and instructed me to learn a trade. His belief was the more one specialized, the more valuable one became – and if all else failed there was always a need for toilet scrubbers and manual labor – which I have done at times too.

Specialization changes with the times as we have all witnessed. Certainly having experience in a specific trade or industry helps in today’s job market. But if you are transitioning out of the service or have been out for some time, being well-equipped to deal with people – or in other terms, having people skills – is a sure way to stand above the crowd.

Now getting HR or some advocate to see your great personality when everything is channeled through some digital platform or job board can be a full-time job at times.

But know this – the jobs are there and if you are open to heading south, Ann Reiter and her team at WhereOpportunityKnox.com is providing that personal, one-on-one treatment and career match-making that will aid veterans who want to impact industry and enjoy the Kentucky life.

Louisville, KY was just named one of the top 17 most affordable US cities and is within a day’s drive to more than 50 percent of our country’s population. Home to the Kentucky Derby as well as some of the country’s largest manufacturing and health care industry leaders, the Louisville area is also home to Fort Knox, the 109,000 acre base that features the Patton Museum.

The Louisville area also sports some of the country’s best spirits and wines. The Brown-Forman Corporation is one of the largest American-owned companies in the spirits and wine business. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, it manufactures some well-known brands throughout the world, including Jack Daniel’s, Chambord, Early Times, Finlandia, Herradura, Canadian Mist, Korbel, Old Forester and Woodford Reserve.

Not that I’m advocating drinking, but The Bourbon Trail is a journey worth exploring if you love to hear the proud history of the Kentucky bourbon industry and experience rich traditions. As a side note, the Kentucky Mule and the Mint Julep are powerfully strong but incredibly good – and I’m not even a bourbon fan.

What I am a fan of is that the Brown-Forman Corporation is a solid advocate and employer of veterans. They even offer paid internships to veterans in multiple areas of disciplines (trades) – like marketing, finance, engineering, IT, Human Resources and a few other disciplines.

Arts, culture, food, night life, outdoor adventures – and yes, JOBS – 25000 to be close to exact that pay from $40,000 – $90,000 a year in multiple industries – exist in the Louisville, Kentucky area.

Your next step is to brush off your resume, perfect your eye contact and get in touch with WhereOpportunityKnox.com. Your next mission could only be a few phone calls away.

Bottom line: My grandfather also suggested I follow the money. Having a job provides a sense of purpose – don’t settle for unemployment when there are industries looking for talent. Be willing to stretch yourself. For Video Updates, subscribe to The Military Wire YouTube Channel.
