A grand opening and dedication ceremony was held in Statesville on Tuesday for a new transitional housing project near the 7th Street Park.

Organizers say that this is one of the only such projects in North Carolina that is totally funded by the community.

The house was donated to the effort by Williard Bowers and his wife.hire vets

“My mom bought the house in 1954, passed away in 2002, I wound up with the house and done some renovations and I decided to donate it,” Bowers said.  “I knew that there was a lot of veterans that needed a place to stay, stop in, and so that’s the reason that we did this, specifically for the veterans.”
