Last week, Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R., Wash.)āthe fourth-highest-ranking member of the House of RepresentativesāintroducedĀ pioneering and well-crafted legislation that would dramatically improve veteransā health care in the United States. For those veterans who have been waiting in line to receive care from a VA facility, it comes not a moment too son.
The 58-page discussion draft, entitled the āCaring for our Heroes in the 21st Century Act,ā would preserve traditional veteransā health care for those who prefer it. But veterans who prefer to seek private health coverage or private health care will have the option do receive a āhealth insurance supportā payment to purchase private health coverage and build a health savings account.
Veterans eligible for Medicare will receive funding for a āMedigapā plan that would defray costs of Medicareās premiums, deductibles, and co-pays.
