Gary receives funding for homeless veterans

The U.S. Departments for Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs announced about $38 million in new funding to help homeless veterans find permanent housing and support services Thursday.

In Indiana, more than $370,000 will assist 74 homeless veterans — including $34,140 to assist five veterans through the Gary Housing Authority.hire vets

The funding is part of the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program, which gives homeless veterans access to rental assistance through HUD and case management and clinical services through the VA. More than 111,000 formerly homeless veterans have found homes through the program so far, HUD Secretary Julian Castro said in a Thursday conference call.
