Since opening in 2002, Veterans Thrift Town in Fort Smith has provided support for disabled people in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Veterans Thrift Town is a thrift store that offers a huge variety of secondhand items, all donated by the community. It was created by Muldrow resident James Crabill to raise funds for his nonprofit, United Disabled Americans Inc., which provides numerous services to those who are disabled, particularly veterans, to improve their quality of life.
âWe help people with accessibility issues on their homes,â Crabill said. âWeâll counsel people coming back home 
from an injury. ⊠That changes your whole world. All of a sudden, you canât get your wheelchair through your doors, you canât get up on the porch and into the house. ⊠You canât get in the bathroom all of a sudden, just all kinds of issues show up, and thatâs where we come in. We can go out and assess their homes and see what we can do to help and maybe direct them some place to make sure theyâre getting the help they need.â
