Housing complex for homeless veterans in Springfield nears completion

Gumersindo Gomez, a veteran and executive director of the Bilingual Veterans Outreach Center on the corner of Franklin and Cass streets in Springfield, said the $2.8 million housing complex for homeless veterans will be completed by December.

“We are hoping to have a ribbon cutting in January and start moving veterans in shortly after that,” he said.

Construction on the complex, which will be located on the same land as the outreach center, began in April.

“We’re working with HAP Housing to create an application and we hope to get that hire vetspublicized around the state by
November, because any veteran who is a resident of Massachusetts and is living below the poverty line is eligible to apply,” he said.
