Personal Counseling Service Inc., has narrowed its fundraising focus from mental health and wellness programs in general to veterans services more specifically at this year’s Norman Melhiser Samaritan Awards Dinner.
In response to local and national news stories about the plight of our nation’s veterans, PCS announced that it will use money contributed during the annual dinner and awards event to provide counseling and other mental wellness services to veterans and their families.
“As nightly news broadcasts pepper their stories with reports of veterans in crisis, it is easy to think they are speaking of ‘elsewhere’ — not our community. But we know better at PCS,” said Doug Drake, CEO, in a news release. “Local VA hospitals and clinics are doing their best to keep up with the numbers in need, but they are overwhelmed and overloaded. We have stepped up to help alleviate some of that load and to help not only the veterans, but their families, too.”
