* Anger if not outright disbelief has greeted a Pentagon decision to rank a non-combat medal over one that can be earned in combat. Now the furor has reached the White House – or at least the White House website.

The question is whether the Distinguished Warfare Medal should trump the Bronze Star in order of importance.

The new medal is meant for pilots of unmanned aircraft and others not physically in battle.

The petition asks President Obama to lower the precedence of the Distinguished Warfare Medal. 100,000 signatures are being sought.

* In move that could one day make drones as common as airplanes, the Federal Aviation Administration is soliciting for six drone test sites around the country.

The FAA wants states to compete for the sites that will test the safety of drones before they are introduced into the national airspace by 2015.

* The Pentagon is requesting a pay raise of just 1 percent in 2014, the smallest in the history of the all-volunteer force.
